GLS Lamps

GLS lamps are the standard domestic 'light bulb'. GLS lamps come with either Screw Caps (Threaded Cap) or Bayonet Caps (Cap with 2 pins). Below are the common ranges found within this lamp:

Candle Lamps

Candle lamps are given the name as they appear to look like a candle. Candle lamps come with either Screw Caps (Threaded Cap) or Bayonet Caps (Cap with 2 pins). Below are the common ranges found within this lamp:

Reflector Lamps

Reflector Lamps are given the name as they reflect light outwards, they are usually found in recessed spotlights & surface spotlight fittings. There are several different sizes of this lamp commonly known as R39, R50, R63, R80, R95 & R125 the number being the diameter of the lamp.

Mains Halogen Lamps

Mains Halogen are a relatively new type of lamp you may hear it called by several names, examples of which are Hi-spot & Par Lamp, they are designed to go into recessed & surface spotlight fittings but to give off a much whiter light than ordinary reflector lamps they are also used externally.

Capsule Lamps

Capsule lamps range in size, voltages & wattage's, they are used in all application and are often referred to with a M number the common capsules are shown below.

Low Voltage Dichroic

Dichroic lamps are a small low voltage lamp that require a transformer, they are used in places where a bright crisp white light is required, usually decorative light.

Fluorescent Tubes

Fluorescent tubes come in many forms, there are hundreds of special size tubes, so we have listed the very common sizes. Fluorescent tubes come in many different colour outputs the normal being white. The 3 main sizes are T5 - 16mm Diameter
T8 - 26mm Diameter & T12 38mm Diameter. All special size tubes are available from us via our Quote Page.

Strip Lights

This type of lamp is becoming increasingly rare due to the poor light colour and tendency to fail in short periods of time, it has been replaced by new and more economical forms of lighting primarily the fluorescent tube. The striplight is found most commonly in picture lights and bathroom & kitchen fittings.

Low Energy

The low energy lamp meets tomorrow's needs for energy efficient long lasting light sources for a wide variety of commercial and home applications. Low energy lamps share the common features of long life, high colour rendering and constant light output throughout their life. They are designed to replace a standard GLS lamp in any application, while using approximately a fifth of the energy and lasting 12 times longer (12000 Hours) - reducing both energy bills and lamp changes. The average cost of the lamp can be recovered after about 1000 Hours use.

MAINLY DOMESTIC USE
The Low energy lamp for the home comes with a choice of 3 bases E.S(Screw Cap), S.E.S(Small Screw Cap) or b.c (Bayonet Cap).

MAINLY COMMERCIAL USE
The Low energy lamps for commercial use are - S meaning single turn lamp, D meaning Double turn lamp, T meaning Triple turn lamp & L meaning Long lamp, all these lamps have pins on the base. See our Base Selection Chart for Diagrams.

There are many types of low energy lamp so we have again listed what we consider to be the most popular ones.

Tubular Halogen

This type of lamp is used mainly for floodlighting areas where colour rendering is not as important, this lamp must not be touched by the hands, as it may severely shorten the life of the lamp beware this lamp gets extremely hot!!

Display Metal Halide

This lamp comes in many different shapes and sizes, it may come like the picture shows in double ended or it may come in capsule form. It is used where colour rendering is important, it has excellent display properties. Examples of where you would find this lamp include Car Showrooms, Clothes Shops, Jeweler's.

This lamp is now available in Red, Green, Blue, you may have seen this type of lamp in use at your local Curry's or where the building appears to be colourful.

Discharge Lighting

Mainly Industrial/Floodlighting type of lamp. Used where a large output of light is required at relevantly little cost. These lamps take a few minutes to come up to full brightness, but are un rivalled in output. The main types of Discharge lighting are:

SODIUM - Gives out a orange type of light, this lamp will have either an Internal Ignitor or External Ignitor, this is symbolized on the lamp with either an E or I inside a triangle. This lamp comes in 2 forms Son T Tubular or Son E Elliptical in shape.

MBFU - A white light, cheaper alternative to Metal Halide, not to be used with Colour CCTV Systems.

METAL HALIDE - Crisp White light, used in major floodlighting area's e.g football grounds & Ice arena's. This lamp may also have a different burning position Horizontal or Vertical it is important that the right lamp is obtained.
