EV Car Charging
Fulfilling UK government legislation requiring installation of EV charge points in new housing.
On the 15th July 2019, the Government outlined a proposal for new regulations regarding EV charging for every new dwelling, and buildings undergoing material change of use to create a new dwelling.
The proposal aims to support and encourage the growth of electric vehicles within the UK by ensuring that all new homes with a dedicated car parking space are built with an electric chargepoint. As time goes on, the demand for electric vehicles and associated charging points will increase exponentially as the UK enforces its £1.5 billion "Road to Zero" Strategy. Ensuring the UK is set to become one of the best electric vehicle infrastructure networks in the world.
We here at Powersaver can help you meet these regulations. If you are an installer or an electrician wanting to know more about installing car charging ports, pop in to our branches or give us a ring. We will help you determine the best home car charging point for the job
UK Standard EV Charging and Sockets
AC Slow and Fast Charging. Commonly used for charging at home or work, there are two types of AC vehicle-side connector to be found on your vehicle, the Type 1 or the Type 2. Type 2 is the standard charging plug for the UK. Type 1 is found on some older vehicles but is no longer common in the UK.
To tell the difference:
On the charger side, you will most commonly find a Type 2 charger plug or socket. You can also charge with a UK 3 pin plug, though to be expected, the charging time is much slower than a Type 2 charger point.
UK DC Supercharging and Sockets
DC Rapid Charging. Larger, fast charging sockets designed to rapidly charge your vehicle mid-journey. Less suitable for home as they are more designed for en-route rapid charging situations. There are three types of DC car-side connectors: CHAdeMO Rapid DC Connector, CCS Rapid DC Connector and Type 2 DC Tesla Supercharger. If your vehicle has any of these sockets, it can charge via the DC superchargers often found at motorway service stations or large scale car charging points.
