A consumer unit is a device that is used to control and distribute electricity to the various electrical circuits within a building. It is also sometimes referred to as a fuse box or distribution board.

The consumer unit is typically installed near the electricity meter and is responsible for protecting electrical circuits from overloading and short-circuiting. It contains a number of fuses or circuit breakers, such as MCBs or RCBOs, that are designed to disconnect the power supply to individual circuits if an electrical fault occurs.
